Brian Blackley
College of Humanities and Social Science
Bio
Dr. Brian Blackley has taught at NC State for 26 years in the English department of the College of Humanities and Social Science. His area of academic expertise is in Shakespearian and Renaissance Literature. Dr. Blackley enjoys teaching with the First Year Inquiry Program because he is able to experience more 1-on-1 interactions with the students in a class that highlights individualistic choice making. He integrates critical and creative thinking in the classroom through projects that focus on the subjective answer to “How do we respond to this text?” emotionally and intellectually. Dr. Blackley wants his students to explore the “why” and the “how” in his class and gain a greater appreciation for literature, the arts, and its relevance in modern life. This fall semester, Dr. Blackley will be teaching ENG 251 section 001Q Major British Authors, a course that chronologically explores the diversity of British literature and its representation of history.
